Setekh has been leading Research Group Samekh for close to seven years now. They are involved in cybernetics research and droid development, especially in anything that might be enhanced with the Force.
While his apprentices and specialists handle most of the technical work, Setekh often hunts down ancient technology himself.
He’s especially interested in Zakuul technology and intends to investigate further. RGS’s ship and his personal ship are still intact, as they did not fight in the war.
He has been hearing rumors of a Sith lord hunting him, aided by a fallen Jedi named Jaroste. The Sith has remained unnamed, but Setekh can sense Arannek.
Setekh allows his apprentices to think Arannek must have escaped him badly hurt but alive and is now after revenge. But Setekh knows Arannek was dead.
Arannek is a Force ghost assisting Jaroste in order to get revenge on Setekh. More powerful than Setekh realized, due to his own projects before he died, he is more than a match for Setekh even without Jaroste, Surrar, and his other apprentices.
Setekh walks into a trap when he hunts Arannek’s presence on Dromund Kaas. He is ambushed by Jaroste and Surrar when he enters Jaroste’s lab. Setekh is able to fight them off, but the distraction gives Arannek time for his assault.
Prepared ahead of time with an artifact intended to weaken Setekh, Arannek possesses the younger Sith almost completely.
The Setekh that leaves Dromund Kaas is really Arannek. Setekh’s apprentices, especially Nuro, suspect something is up, as he acts and feels different than he did, more powerful, but more patient with his subordinates and not quite as mercilessly cruel as Setekh.
Setekh/Arannek heads to Zakuul in order to allow Nuro and Setekh’s other apprentices to investigate Zakuul’s technology while he learns more about Zakuul’s infrastructure and goals.
Setekh/Arannek ends up running into Sakhar, Arannek’s brother and a Jedi Shadow, currently working with a group intending to resist Zakuul. Sakhar recognizes Setekh and doesn’t intend to offer him a chance to help, but Arannek makes himself known and insists.
Research Group Samekh ends up relocating in order to aid the resistance effort. Setekh’s willingness to work with Jedi, even members of his own family, raises suspicion, but by the time Nuro realizes the truth, it’s too late to flee Odessen. The far-more-powerful Arannek is well aware of Nuro’s sympathies and both threatens him and offers to have him smuggled to check on his Republic family.
Arannek’s military knowledge is far superior to Setekh’s, and it plus Arannek’s squirreled away resources earns him a place at the war council.
And that’s as far as I’m going for now, I want to see what happens next with the unreleased chapters.
